Guwahati: Assembly Assam on Thursday passed several amendants to the law of conservation of four-month-old livestock which tightened the guidelines of slaughter but reopened the movement of livestock institutions, except to the district bordering Bangladesh.
Livestock will now be allowed to be slaughtered only at the house of slaughter which is licensed or recognized by the State and there will be no exceptions to the principal law, the acam preservation law, 2021, has provided.
In accordance with the provisions of the original law, “the state government can free certain places of worship or certain opportunities to slaughter cows other than calf, bulls for religious purposes.” This provision has now been removed by amendment.
The amended Bill also empowers the police to win and auction vehicles used to transport livestock illegally.
The amendment also empowers the police to enter the house accused and examined, look for and seize the property obtained in the past six years with the money obtained from the trade in illegal cattle.
However, the provisions of transportation prohibitions between countries in the main law that were ratified by a four-month house had been maintained unchanged.
Also, the ban provided in the main law in the sale and purchase of beef in areas inhabited by the non-beef eating community and within a radius of five km from the temple or satra is not touched and will continue to apply.
