Guwahati: The Assam government on Sunday launched a social and financial security scheme for women who lost their husbands because Covid-19, offered financial assistance once by Rs 2.5 Lakh to 176 beneficiaries on the first day.
“This scheme will discuss those who have lost their husbands in the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Minister Himanta Buswa Sarma, launching the ‘Scheme Support Minister of Widows’ in a program held at Srimanta Sankardev International Auditorium here.
The government, however, has disbursed conditions that claim to be based on the scheme, the husband of beneficiaries must die because Covid and beneficiaries are low-income group members with annual income to RS 5 Lakh.
During the launch of Sunday, Sarma submitted a check to the benefits of Kamrup (Metropolitan), Nalbari, Darrang, Besa, Morigaon, Nagaon, Goalpara and Kamrup.
The release of the government states that until now, 883 beneficiaries have been found to be eligible under the scheme.
Sarma handed over the remaining checks to the Guardian ministers from the district to distribute it among the other beneficiaries.
“The reason we all gather here is not happy, because the government is sad like widows who have lost their husbands.
The loss of loved ones is always painful.
However, our government in an effort to provide a little support at this difficult time, has decided to relieve The suffering of family members from the deceased with financial support, “Sarma said.
The minister’s chairman said this scheme was launched to help beneficiaries lead a dignified life.
Sarma said that the government also created budget support.
In addition to financial support, the government said the widows would also be entitled to the benefits of Arunodoi scheme together with a monthly pension under the ongoing universal widow widow pension scheme.
