Guwahati: Minister of Perat for Education, Development of Skills and Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan, on Sunday inaugurated a sophisticated center for Nanotechnology (CNT) and the Indian Knowledge System Center (Ciks), two main infrastructure projects in Iit-Guwahati.
He also inaugurated two hostels at the Institute in front of the State Minister of Education Ranoj Pegu and Guwahati MP Queen Oja.
CNT aims to meet future challenges and increase academic partnerships with industry in nanotechnology.
The main funding for the center, which includes Rs 37 Crore for buildings, regardless of equipment, obtained from the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEIT).
“This will host 25 advanced laboratories that will focus on progress in multi-disciplinary, scientific and translational studies,” said a spokesman for IIT Guwahati.
Ciks will focus on preservation, documenting and maintaining unique knowledge for India.
The top priority includes classical music in India, Yoga, Sanskrit, traditional medicines, temple architecture, ceramic traditions and special agricultural practices in northeast India, herbal plants in the northeast as health food and metal works Assam.
Scholars from various backgrounds will be encouraged to participate in the new Ciks Interdisciplinary Research and Education program, enabling them to develop practices and technology in various fields for sustainable growth and development.
The hostel was inaugurated by adding 1,100 more rooms to the facilities in Iit Guwahati, while Dikhow Hostel was the first hostel on campus for project staff accommodation.
Built with a total cost of Rs 132 CR, this hostel will be more helpful in increasing the capacity of IIT Guwahati.
Pradhan congratulates IIT Guwahati to achieve excellent rankings in various international and national ranking systems and appreciate the efforts of institutions in creating ecosystems for research and education and focusing on the overall development of the northeastern region.
He said the nanotechnology center would contribute not only for the knowledge and development of India but all over the world.
“The rich biodiversity of this region provides a lot of scope for research that can benefit humanity.
There are a number of policy instructions in national education policies that can modernize our education system.

Romanj Pegu said the Institute must focus on entrepreneurship and produce work creators and job seekers.
“The Institute like IIT Guwahati must also focus on developing new agricultural technology to help with double farmers’ income,” he said.
He then asked the Institute for mentor of other educational institutions in the region and also developed modules for teacher training.
Previously, while welcoming the guests, director IIT Guwahati TG Sitharam said the Institute had proactively pursued upscale research and worked towards the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ while meeting regional aspirations, parallel to national policies, especially implementing NEP 2020, and competing globally in Development of research and technology.
