Guwahati: Floods have reduced the vulnerable number of rawa swamps in Kaziranga Assam National Park (KNPTR), which have been counted for the first time throughout the KNPTR on 10 and 11 January.
Before this, the process was only done in Kaziranga National Park.
“In the method of total count, 868 individuals have been recorded which includes 173 men, 557 women and 138 years.
There is a slight decline in population compared to 907 calculated in 2018,” said a statement issued by the Director of the Kaziranga Tiger Reserve field on Tuesday night.
The official said this was mainly due to two high floods in the intervention period, namely 2019 and 2020.
Wise region, 786 under the Division of East Assam, 62 under the division of the Wildlife Biswanath and 20 under the Wildlife Nagaon division had been recorded by experienced and trained.

In the field exercise for the census of the vulnerable East Rawa deer, 29 enumerators and 112 forest personnel were directly involved.
On the other hand in the estimated fourth wetlands 2021-2022, conducted from December 21 to 27, which included all tiger reserves, a total of 66,776 birds from 126 species included using the calculation point method.
Of this number, 42,205 birds were calculated in the KNP area, while 24,571 was calculated at Wildlife Succuaries LAOKHOWA and Burachapori.
The numbers of the numbers topped the list with 16,552, followed by North Pintail (9,493) and general teal (5,631).
“Ferrugginous Duck, an important species with 2,236 numbers, can be considered as the highlight of this estimate,” said the field director.
Birds were calculated in 211 different points in 157 water bodies involving 35 enumeration teams, including volunteers from local education institutions, NGOs, officers and frontline staff of the Ministry of Forestry.
