Guwahati: Floods have reduced the vulnerable number of rawa swamps in Kaziranga Assam National Park (KNPTR), which have been counted for the first time throughout the KNPTR on 10 and 11 January.
Before this, the process was only done in Kaziranga National Park.
“In the method of total count, 868 individuals have been recorded which includes 173 men, 557 women and 138 years.
There is a slight decline in population compared to 907 calculated in 2018,” said a statement issued by the Director of the Kaziranga Tiger Reserve field on Tuesday night.
The official said this was mainly due to two high floods in the intervention period, namely 2019 and 2020.

The numbers of the numbers topped the list with 16,552, followed by North Pintail (9,493) and general teal (5,631).
“Ferrugginous Duck, an important species with 2,236 numbers, can be considered as the highlight of this estimate,” said the field director.
Birds were calculated in 211 different points in 157 water bodies involving 35 enumeration teams, including volunteers from local education institutions, NGOs, officers and frontline staff of the Ministry of Forestry.
