Guwahati: Assam has achieved the vaccination goal of one Crore Covid-19-in six months.
The target was crossed on Tuesday night as an inoculation of gaining momentum in the state with augmented vaccine supply.
“Despite the previous crunch vaccine, it was a massive success to manage a dose of crore,” Munindra Nath Nattey’s vaccination spokesman said to Tii on Wednesday.
Assam has a total of 12.31 crores 18-plus population.
Ngateey said about 18.61 lakh people from the country had obtained both doses, while 84.52 lakh got the first dose of vaccines.
Until Wednesday afternoon, a total of 1.03 crore (1,03,14,013) doses were given in the state.
The Ministry of Health official said that the vaccine flow continued without interruption, Assam might be able to vaccinate the entire 18-plus population with the first dose in December.
Covid-19 vaccination began in the state of January 16 but it was for health workers (HCWS) at first.
From February 2021 and so on, vaccination began for frontline workers (FLWS).
The population is 60 years and above (senior citizens) and those aged between 45 and 59 years with a predetermined comorbidity included in the age group prioritized for Covid-19 vaccination since March.
The general population aged 45 years and above is included for vaccination from April 1.
Phase III Drive Vaccination starts from the first week of May for residents in the age group 18 to 44 but residents’ registration and appointment bookings for the 18-plus group starting from April 28.
The supply of vaccines to the Government of Covid Private Vaccination (CVC) stopped from May 1 due to lack of dose.
However, private CVC began buying a vaccine directly from the manufacturer.
Apart from the Covishield and Covaxin, the Russian V Sputnik Vaccine is also preferred in Guwahati mainly because the interval is shorter between two doses.
Until now, the Government of Assam has received more than one dose of crore (1.00.80,000), but the maximum dose arrives during June-July.
The total number of covid vaccine doses received by the private center is around 1.29 lakh.
