Phanidhar Talukdar, MLA from the Bhabanipur legislative constituency, is likely to join BJP on Wednesday in Guwahati in front of the Chairman of Minister Himanta Buswa Sarma.
Talukdar challenged the election of the State Assembly held earlier this year on AIUD tickets and defeated Asom candidate Gan Ga Parishad (AGP) Ranjit Deka with margins around 3,000 votes.
Speculation is rampant about Talukdar joining BJP for the past few weeks.
Secretary General of AIudf (Organizing) and Chief of Spokesman for Aminul Islam accused BJP “extortion” and “pressurized” Talukdar to join BJP.
“He was squeezed to leave Aiudf.
He was also captivated to give strength,” he said.
With the resignation of Talukdar from Assembly Assam’s membership, the number of empty seats will now go up to six.
