Dibrugarh: Regional Medical Research Center ICMR (RMRC) in Lahowal in the Regency has developed a test kit, which will be able to detect omicron Covid-19 variants in just two hours.
The development came at the time of a new variant of worries made his presence feel in the country, with at least 33 cases detected so far.
It usually takes three to four days to detect omicrons with the help of kits currently available on the market.
The new kit has been prepared by the ICMR-RMRC team led by Borkakoty Bisjectyi scientist.
“ICMR-RMRC, Dibrugarh, has designed and developed a real-time RT-PCR test based on hydrolysis probes for new Omicron variant detection (B.1.1.529) from SARS-COV-2 in two hours.
This is important because at this time at least 36 The clock is needed for targeted sequencing and four to five days for the original genome sequencing to detect a variant, “said Borkakoty on Saturday.
The kit developed by ICMR-RMRC is being produced in large quantities by a company based in Kolkata GCC Biotech in a public-private partnership model.
“The kit has been tested on the fragments of the specific synthetic genes of the Omicron variant of SARS-COV-2 in two unique regions that are very specific to protein surges and also reference synthetic control genes.
Internal validation has shown that the test is 100.% accurate,” said Borkakoty.
In July 2020, the team of scientists led by Borkakoty managed to isolate the Covid-19 virus (SARS-COV-2) and made the ICMR-RMRC, Dibrugarh, the third government laboratory in the country to achieve achievements.
