Guwahati: Some feared people sank as a ferry boat carrying around 100 passengers and several vehicles overturned after colliding with another boat on the Brahmaputra River on Wednesday.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Force Response Disaster (SDRF) have launched rescue operations.
The boat headed to River Majuli Island from the Jorhat district.
The accident occurred at around 4:30 p.m., officials said.
According to the initial report, so far, one person is reported to sink.
The ferry traveled from Neematighat Jorhat to Majuli Island when the collision took place.
The Minister of Delivery Union, Port and Sarbanou Sonowal’s waterways have stated nervously and attention to ferry accidents in Majuli.
He spoke with CM Himanta Buswa Sarma by telephone and took a stock of rescue operations and ongoing assistance.
In addition, ministry officials have been directed to provide all the support needed to help affected people.
Sonowal represents the Majulization constituency as MLA from 2016 to 2021 before he moved to the Union cabinet.
