DIBRUGARH: A enterprising childhood from Dibrugarh, Dhiraj Bikash Gogoi, is set to get a voyage to the Brahmaputra in Dibrugarh to Majuli island onto a specially crafted ship made from discarded plastic water bottles.
The unique”eco-boa”, which Gogoi himself is manufactured from 1,600 plastic bottles that he gathered from the banks of the Brahmaputra dropped by picknickers and vacationers.
Even the 11-ft-long along with 4-ft wide vessel weighs 45-kg and may carry 6 men readily.
However Gogoi plans to sail with just two team members into his maiden voyage.
Though no date was adjusted for its ship, Gogoi said he will set sail after the Covid constraints are raised in the nation.
“Plastic-free Brahmaputra” and”River Tourism” are likely to be the subject of this adventurous river trip.
“The purpose of the voyage will be to increase awareness on the risks posed to the environment by plastic sprays.
The majority of people are in the practice of shedding drinking water bottles and single-use vinyl on shore and rivers that is choking the ecosystem up.
I came up with the concept of creating the ship from waste plastic jar after viewing the Brahmaputra river lender piled with heaps of plastic bottles that are left by picknickers along with other people.
I accumulated near 2,000 plastic bottles in the lake bank from that 1,600 bottles were employed in building the ship.
It took 45 days to finish the ship.
We used bamboo sticks to provide contour to the ship while natural glues and ropes had been used to scatter together the bottles.
We’ve sailed across 10-12 kms around the Brahmaputra to the plastic vessel to check its endurance and strength.
It is doing perfectly fine.
We’re raring to go,” Gogoi on Wednesday stated.
