Bengaluru: It was an unusual morning in a middle prison on Saturday.
Instead of waking up when they used to be 6 in the morning, inmates and detainees were asked to get out of their barracks one hour early.
Immediately, 100 officials from Central Crime Branch were led by commissioners with police (crime) Sandeep Patil entered the barracks to conduct surprises.
Ten police dogs, who were trained to track narcotics and explosives, accompany them.
Some of them – solar, bhoomi, drona, mailu, krish and shutter – see marijuana hidden behind shelves, edrolls and clothes.
According to officials, three cases of murder were recently reported in this city leading to surprise examination.
“Former Corporator Rekha Khadiresh, investors and Madan and History-Sheeter Kareem Ali was killed in a planned way.
We suspected the murder was plotted in prison,” said an officer.
The police confiscated 26 knives, two cellphones, four SIM cards, three drive pens and memory cards, 200 grams of marijuana, seven smoking pipes and 7,700 rs.
Most knives are made by prisoners using steel glasses and plates.
“They think they can protect themselves with tools when attacked by rivals,” said an official.
Other officers say drive pens have names and contact numbers along with the details of the bank account.
“Some prisoners are part of the land mafia.
Sitting in prison, they call landowners and threaten them,” said an officer.
“It is an old habit of experienced criminals to plan illegal activities in prison.
When the conspiracy was hatched, they got themselves captured in older cases and chose to stay behind the bar,” he said.
