Bengaluru: The police have registered a criminal case against four customs officials in connection with the disappearance of gold weighed 1.7kg from the god of customs offices in the CR building, Queens Road in the city.
Gold was confiscated in two separate cases registered in 2012 and 2016, respectively.
The incident was revealed during a failed inspection by a Customs Deputy Director.
The commercial road police registered a case under the IPC section 409 (criminal violation of public confidence) and 420 (cheating) against two customs supervisors and two inspectors.
Srinivas Gopal M, a customs supervisor (alertness), is a complainant in this case.
Gopal told the police that the deputy director had examined the department failed on July 15 and the relevant officials failed to produce 722 grams of gold confiscated in cases registered in 2012 and 1,042 grams of gold in connection with the 2016 case.
The officials found that gold was lost.
“Two supervisors and two inspectors, who are in charge of overseeing the failure, have abused gold,” the alleged Gopal.
This is the second case listed against customs officials in connection with the loss of gold confiscated.
In October 2020, the CBI recorded six customs officials to disappear gold weighing 2.6kg from the warehouse at the airport in Bengaluru.
The probe in that matter is still active.
