Bengaluru: Kothanur police have arrested a pair on charges of deceiving the police for 50 lakh Rs.
Shaji Damodaran, 42, and his wife Kanjana BonMath, 40, Horamavu residents, were arrested under the IPC 406 section (criminal violations of trust) and 420 (cheating and not praising property shipments), and produced before the local court.
Both have been sent in police custody for 10 days.
The police sought other charges identified as Alex from Kerala.
The complaint was submitted by Constable N Kemparaju, which was attached by the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission, Ms Building.
Kemparaju told the Toi that the couple was friends with him when he worked at the Hennur police station in early 2019.
“Damodaran’s wife is a Thai citizen and they face problems related to documents.
I helped them in solving problems, after that they became my close friend,” said Kemparaju.
He said Damodaran claimed to be in a business installing AC in private and public sector buildings.
Also, Damodaran said that he had property in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, worth around Hospital 3 in the core.
“One day, Damodaran showed me the same documents, said he had promised them with a bank in Kerala for a loan.
He also told me that he had won the tender to install ACS in government buildings in Hyderabad, Goa and Delhi , which requires urgent cash and asks if I can help him, “said Kemparaju.
Damodaran promises the currency that he will pay a loan immediately.
“At that time, we have become a family friend.
I can’t refuse and transfer Rs 30 Lakh to a Damodaran bank account and his wife in several installments.
Then, Damodaran demands more money and I promise gold and gold members of my family and arrange additional hospitals 20 lakh.
The final payment was carried out in May this year.
In August, Damodaran gave me a check for Rs 50 Lakh, which bounced.
Since then, the couple remains incommunicado, “added Kemparaju.
Asked about the role of Alex, Kemaraju said, “Alex is a person who convinced me that the Damodaran property in Kerala was worth around Rs 3 Crore and said he stood a guarantee for loan money.”
