Helpline Covid-19 Nimhans receives many calls from parents who say that their children refuse to go to school and seek help dealing with situations that cause stress on the family.
Some calls come from parents who are afraid of the third wave of infection, do not want to send their wards to school.
Problems related to the reopening of the school accounted for 20% of all calls to Helpline, said Dr K Sekar, head, psychological support in disaster management, Nimhans.
“Most calls related to children refuse to go to school because they are used to at home,” said Dr.
Sekar.

Preeti Galagali, pediatrician, said he had the entry of patients because of a surge in flu cases and viruses in Bengaluru and interactions with them proved in-depth.
“About 75% of parents have online class choices and they don’t want to send their children back to school – even when children insist,” he said.
“A fixed presence is not compulsory.
We advise them and about half agree to send their children back to school.
Close to 90% go to school, but the rest has a problem.” Dr.
Galagali said children who did not want to go to school fell In two categories: older children, who are good at learning and prefer home comfort and loss of time on the way, while other groups consist of those who hate school discipline and suffer severe internet addiction.
“Internet addiction is difficult to handle and I refer to a case to a psychiatrist.

Sulato Shenoy, a Bengaluru-based child psychologist, said that many children become addicted to gadgets during a pandemic and now suffer from withdrawal symptoms.
