BENGALURU: A 63-year-old man has alleged that staff of a private hospital in Kammanahalli, Bengaluru stole his 85-year-old mother’s gold chain and her mobile phone between May 11 and May 19 when she was admitted there.
M Jagannatha, a resident of Banaswadi, told police that his mother, Bhavani, was admitted to the hospital on May 11, due to health complications and she later tested positive for Covid-19.
She was treated in the ICU.
Jagannatha and his family members were isolated at their residence as they too were infected with the virus.
“I was in touch with my mother through video calls and I noticed her chain was missing on May 16.
I thought that her chain was removed as she was in the ICU for treatment.
My mother breathed her last on May 19, due to Covid-19.
We did not receive my mother’s gold chain worth Rs 50,000 and her mobile phone.
The hospital staff have stolen them,” Jagannatha alleges in his complaint.
Jagannatha approached Banaswadi police station on Wednesday and filed a complaint about the incident.
Police have taken up a case of theft under the IPC section 379 and an investigation is underway.
“We will seek details from the hospital about the incident and will find out what exactly happened,” an investigating officer said.
