Bengaluru: Bengaluru reported most related related accidents among 89 major cities throughout the country last year, according to the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) report 2020 released last week.
While the 2,993 accidents were caused by excessive in Bengaluru last year, the number was the lowest in recent years, mainly due to pandemics, locking, travel restrictions, and job-from-home arrangements.
Such accidents have declined over the past few years: 4,143 in 2019 and 4,289 in 2018.
2,993 accidents produce 596 deaths and left 2,650 people injured.

Experts said most of these accidents were reported on the main arterial road during late at night and early in the morning when the traffic movement and the presence of the police on the road was lacking.
Bengaluru was followed by Hyderabad, who saw 1,785 accidents due to excessive, Delhi (1,493), Thrissur (1,448), Ahmedabad (1,181), Chennai (1,126), Kollam (1,072) and Jabalpur (1,072).
Thrissur and Kollam in Kerala and Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh are Tier-two cities.
In all Karnataka, 27,059 accidents were reported due to excess speed, which caused 7,809 deaths and 31,190 injuries last year.
“More than 60% of the accidents on the road in the country can be associated with excess speeds.
In Bengaluru, most accidents were reported at traffic police boundaries in Yelakea, Kr Puram, Chikkajala and Electronics City.
Airport Road, Old Madras Road, Hosur Road, Mysore Road and Nice Road Watch most of the accidents due to excess speed, “said a senior traffic police officer.
However, the number of Overspeeding cases ordered by Bengaluru police fell from 61,531 in 2019 to 59,071 in 2020.
Between January and September 2021, only 45,883 cases were ordered.
MN Srihari, Traffic experts and former advisors to the government, said: “Most of these accident victims are young people, especially two-wheeled riders.
Most of them do not wear quality and full face helmets.
There are several reasons, including negligence and Driving under the influence of alcohol, for accidents on the road.
