Bangalore: In an attempt to generate non-fare box revenue, Bangalore Transport Transport Corporation identified 10 places in the city to establish a fuel outlets.
They are BMTC Depot in Deepanjali Nagar, Ms palya, Jayanagar, Banashankari (Katriguppe), Indiranagar, HSR Layout and empty places in Kengeri, Nagarabhavi, Puttenahalli (Yelahanku) and Bidadi.
BMTC will float a tender in September invited the oil marketing companies (OMCS) to regulate fuel outlets in these places.
Expected to appear in January 2022.
“Our plan is to set up 100 fuel stations in the city.
We will build 10 again and spread to other places by the response.
We expect revenues of Rs 5 lakh per unit per month.
The contract period will be for 15 years, “said a senior official.
Costs to set up outlets would be taken care of by the OMC selected.
BMTC officials said that OMC can also set up charging stations in these places.
“It will be a win-win situation for everyone.
One, OMCS now find it difficult to get land to set up stores of fuel.
Two, motorists in cities facing difficulties due to shortage of outlets of fuel.
Three, significant revenue for BMTC,” said a officials.
Statistics show Bengaluru has 1,069 fuel outlets – IOC (406), BPC (260), HPC (212), Shell (62), Reliance (12), Essar (52), and MRPL (52).

Many owners of fuel said they were unable to run outlets in the CBD because of high land values.
“It’s a good move by BMTC to provide land to set this outlet.
They have enough land in the city but most of the outlets will be a corporation owned company operated (COCO),” said a petroleum dealer in town.
There OMC 4,926 retail outlets in Karnataka and another 152 will be deployed during this financial year.
