Mandya: Veteran politician G Madaggowda, 94, whose name is identical to Cauvery agitation for almost four decades in the district, died at his son’s hospital at KM Doddi on Saturday.
Madegowda suffered a disease related to age, and he was hospitalized for the past three weeks.
In fact, he was an experienced politician, after being elected MLA three times from the KiragaValu assembly segment, and twice as a member of Parliament, in 1989 and 1991, and had served as a forest minister in the cabinet Minister Gundurao, he was a face and The main driving force for Cauvery agitation.
In 1994, when Prime Minister Narasimha Rao directed the country to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, Madegowda submitted his resignation as a member of parliament, and took part in agitation.
His role in convincing Then Head of Bangarappa’s head in bringing regulations to overcome the temporary appreciation of the Cauvery Tribunal (CWDT) dispute, is considered a heroic achievement of Madegowda, by thousands of farmers and admirers.
When CWDT passed the final award in 2007, he played an important role in holding Cauvery agitation for more than 100 days in the Mandya district, and can be seen sitting in Silver Jubilee Park, throughout agitation.
