Bengaluru: “Having full knowledge of suspects with criminal antecedents who live in your jurisdiction and monitor them.” This is what is told by senior police officers in the field every now.
Even though such suggestions sometimes fall on deaf ears, they seem to have worked in two cases.
Three cellphone thieves were arrested within eight hours of registration while other thieves were released less than a day after the complaint was submitted.
Police patrol staff and CCTV recordings play a vital role in both cases.
The first case was reported on the morning of November 19 when a young man filed a complaint saying his cellphone, stored on the wall of a lower building in RR Nagar, was stolen on November 16.
Inspector M and his staff began to study.
CCTV footage and scan old violators who live in and around RR Nagar.
At 6 pm, the main suspect, Kiran Kumar from Channasandra, was detained.
He claimed to commit a crime and also led by the police to two helper – Chetan Kumar from Talaghattapura and Darshan from Sunkadakatte.
From them, the police recovered 21 cellphones stolen in recent months.
Trio, all of them in their early 20s, allegedly stole cellphones from workers who live in emergency warehouses, truck drivers sleep in vehicles and people who work on construction sites.
The source said Kiran was previously arrested for theft and CCTV recording showed him and two other people roamed near the building under construction.
In the second incident, a woman forgot her bag in a car parked outside Chandra’s residence on Thursday.
Bags have 103g gold ornaments worth Rs 4.6 lakh.
Late at night, he remembered and examined his car, just to find a bag that was missing.
He filed a complaint of the police on Friday.
CCTV recording closure checks by Inspector Manoj Hoovale and the team threw an unclear picture of the suspect – a slender middle-aged man.
The team then studied the list of suspects living in the jurisdiction.
On Saturday morning, the police arrived at Nayaz Pasha’s doorstep, 50, a resident of Chandra layout.
“Pasha is an old offender who faces charges of theft.
CCTV footage showed a man walking near the car several times on Thursday night and then escaping with a bag,” said an officer.
‘Cameras Install’ DCP (West) Saneev M Patil urges citizens to install “as many CCTV cameras as possible” in their environment.
“CCTV recording helps solve these two cases quickly,” he said.
