Bengaluru: The cengeri line saw at least 7,476 people using Metro services on Monday, the first day of commercial operations in the corridor.
Many residents sighed after they received metro connectivity after a delay of almost three years.
Lakshmi S, a citizen of Kengeri, said: “I don’t believe the metro finally operates here.
Previously, I used to take an automatic rickshaw from Mysuru Road Station but now the metro is almost at my door.” BMRCL Records showed 1.83 lakh passengers between 7 hours Morning and 8 nights including 88,148 (purple lines) and 95,387 (green lines) on Monday.
This includes parts of the cengeri (mysuru road-kengeri) Ridership: 7,476.
BMRCL Records showed 1.09 lakh passengers between 7am and 6pm including 51,250 (purple lines) and 58,443 (green lines).
In the cengeri (Mysuru Road-Kengeri), passengers are 5,116.
The first train from the cuehouse began at 7 in the morning and some of the first passengers were greeted with roses.
Vishesh S, a passenger said: “Traveling to the office from Nayandahalli to Indiranagar is now finer, cheaper and cheaper.
It’s better to be late than not at all.” While technicians are less because of the arrangement of work-from-home, many travelers are government employees.
Some argue they feel safe and relaxed on the metro.
However, parking facilities at the Kengeri station are not open so that many passengers use the facilities at the nearest BMTC bus terminus.
Many passengers from Kr Puram leading to Mysuru and Mandya also used the facility.
“It’s easier to take the metro from BYappanahalli to the cengeri and then take a bus to mysuru.
It saves time and money,” Shivaraj Patil said, a resident of Puram Kr.
Cengeri stretches are expected to serve 75,000 commuters every day, especially those traveling to the University of Bangalore (Jnanabharathi campus), Global Village IT Park and RV College of Engineering.
The extension of the cengeries to Challaghatta (2km) is scheduled to be completed in March 2022.
Part 7.5km cengeri with six stations inaugurated on Sunday.
The time of travel from Byappanahalli to Kengeri is 52 minutes.
