Bengaluru: Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has decided to memo the previous proposal to build a tunnel road on Mysore Road.
It should facilitate the construction of a depot in Challaghatta near the cengeri.
BMRCL is now planning the Metro Depot that is elevated first in Challaghatta.
“Depot will be at level 1.
The road that connects Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout (NKPL) will be on the ground.
No need for a tunnel.
This will be the first elevated depot because everything else is on the ground,” said a senior official BMRCL .
Major Arterial Road 10.7km (Mar) is being built by Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) connecting Magadi Road and Mysore Road to pass the NKPL.
In 2018, BMRCL proposed a 200m tunnel with a cost of Rs 80 Crore under the proposed Challaghatta Depot, because Mar should cut the place.
While the Southwest extension (Mysuru Road-Kengeri) is all arranged for commercial operations, the corridor terminal station in Challaghatta, which is located on a good road, is likely to operate only in 2023-2024.
In January 2019, the state government approved the Challaghatta station and Inter Capital Integration Hub (Imih) at 39 hectares of land at a cost of Rs 140 Crore.
It is expected to be able to help around 15,500 passengers daily, especially from places such as Bidadi, Ramanagara, Channapatna, Mandya and Mysuru.
Commuter will be able to park their vehicles in Challaghatta and take the Purple Metro line.
In January 2020, BMRCL referred to consultant stup PVT Ltd with a contract of Rs 4.4 Crore as a detailed design consultant (DDC) for the Depot and Imih Challaghatta.
However, civil tenders have not been invited.
It will have a stable page, building administration, maintenance and workshop and multi-level parking facilities.
Officials said Challaghatta would be an important depot for train operations on the purple line (Challaghatta-Whitefield), along with the proposed Kadugodi depot near Whitefield.
The BYappanahalli depot that exists will be re-intended to meet the ORR airport metro.
When Solar Kiran from the NKPL Forum, the Forum said: “It has been 1.5 years since the DDC tender from the Challaghatta depot is given, but the tender for civil work has not floated.
Delay construction depots will affect the project.”
