Chandigarh: A total of 79.4% of the population of adults in the city has developed antibodies against the Coronavirus, according to the initial results of the serosurvey that is being carried out by the Biochemistry Department of the Government of Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), the sector 32.
The study aims to collect 1,200 samples from 30 Randomly selected clusters.
This will include population-based representations of urban, rustic and rehabilitation colonies.
The initial findings showed urban areas had 83.5% antibodies compared to rural areas with seropocytivities of 68.8%.
Of the 132 participants from rural areas tested so far, 91 has been tested positively (68.8%) for the existence of antibodies to viruses.
Testing 322 samples from eight urban groups and 208 samples from five clusters in the colony have revealed Seroprevalence 83.5% and 79.8%.
Dana, Vikas Nagar and Khuda Ali Sher are among rural areas.
From the colony tested so far, the sample was taken from Dadumajra, Burail, Bapu Dham Colony, Shanti Nagar and Hallomajra.
Provisional results from urban areas including sector 7, 15,19,23,37,39,45 and 46.
Complete results will provide more accurate reflections of the actual level of SARS-COV-2 seroprevalence among adult populations.
This will help understand the prevalence of diseases and immune responses to Covid vaccination, allowing health authorities to address better strategies for disease prevention and control, according to experts.
