Chandigarh: Savita Kovind, wife of President of RAM Nath Kovind, inaugurated the Chandigarh bird park on Tuesday.
The park in Nagar van behind Lake Sukhna will be open to the public from Wednesday.
The Department of Forest and wildlife has developed a park to create awareness among the general public to bird conservation, natural education and conservation.
Aviaries Walk-through has been made for exotic birds that are usually raised in India.
PT Chief Conservator of Forests Debendra Dalia said the main attractions are African love birds, budgerigars, white goose, goose black, wood ducks, gold birds, yellow gold pheasant, macaw green wings, sunbag chairs, gray gray birds, finches and pheasantic .
The department has planned a cage in such a way that the birds, besides having free flights, the ability to nest in natural habitat, will stay at home cages and visitors will be able to walk past them, he added.
Meanwhile, after the inauguration, Kovind’s wife visited the park and appreciated the efforts made by the department.
He said the park would help attract the attention of amateur bird observers, environmental lovers and ornithology experts to this planned city.
