Chandigarh: The day after joining, Commissioner of New Municipal Corporation (MC) Anindita Mitra on Tuesday searched for a report on road conditions and poor cycles in the city.
The Civic body manages a road network of around 1,400 km, including the V-6 road (access to the home) in the worst condition, according to residents.
Every year 20% of roads in the city must be estimated to be rotated.
However, work was stopped for several years because of the inability of the MC to pay for contractors.
After the UT administration dedicated funds for road maintenance, MC was finally able to start working in 2020.
But with work from previous years piled up, the steps remained slow.
Residents have asked questions about poor road quality work in various parts of the city.
Many people accused no checks on the contractor given extensions even after failing to complete work on time.
While UT and MC promote smart bicycles, cyclists must navigate debris and garbage in the broken and uneven cycle lanes and are often forced to take the main road, uncover accidents.
The cycle track is narrow and without proper cleaning and maintenance, they get increasingly narrower, limiting the movement of cyclists.
Put the pipe, construction or repair work inside and around the track area leading to the intermittent track.
