Chandigarh: No oxygen was taken for four days

CHANDIGARH: The city is using an average of only 8 metric tonne (MT) of the 20 MT daily quota of oxygen fixed by the Centre, an outcome of the dip in the Covid-19 cases.
The UT administration has procured a total of 101.74 MT of oxygen since June 1, according to data.
On four days (June 5, 7, 9 and 12), no oxygen was procured from Inox, Barotiwala, Baddi, Himachal Pradesh.
The reduction in the demand had allowed the UT to withdraw its orders to private hospitals to submit daily details of number of beds occupied and oxygen cylinders procured and consumed.
Similar orders issued to private oxygen refilling vendors to submit information had also been discontinued.
Yashpal Garg, the nodal officer for oxygen supply, said “Earlier, there was daily transportation of oxygen tankers from Baddi to Chandigarh.
Now, the UT is procuring as and when required, which is also saving transportation charges.”
