Chandigarh: This city is close to the immunity of herd to Coronavirus.
That is what experts believe.
The optimistic projection comes from the initial findings of the Serosurvey Government Hospital show that 79.4% of the adult population has developed antibodies against Covid.
“Considering variants, if more than 80% have antibodies, flock immunity is achieved,” said a public health expert in PGI.
Serosurvey recently by ICMR said 62% of the population in this country had developed antibodies.
Going with these reports, experts hope that the next surge will be limited to certain bags and not widen as the second wave.
“Because of greater vaccination coverage in cities and seropocytivities both in rural and urban areas, the next wave will be managed,” said the expert.
The ongoing serosurveys in the adult population and pediatric groups – are being carried out by PGI – has enabled experts to understand the prevalence of infection.
“It will also help in focusing our strategies to areas that need to be considered” said a health department official.
