CHANDIGARH: A total of 1,953 doses were provided to the 18 plus category on Monday as no new vaccine consignment arrived for this age group from the Serum Institute of India.
“We are expecting to get the next lot for this group by June 10,” said Dr Amandeep Kang, director health services, UT.
Since the last one week, the health department has been using the vaccines for 45 years and above group for the 18 plus category.
The lowest coverage was on June 6 when a total of 1,892 people were vaccinated.
On Monday, 2,880 people were vaccinated.
As the UT gets its doses from the central government, those from the private manufacturers are also routed through the Centre.
The PM on Monday announced there will be free vaccination for this age group to enhance the coverage from June 21 “However after June 21, all these things will settle and we shall have no shortage of vaccines.
The same process of procurement which was followed for the other age group shall be followed for the 18 years and above,” said an official in the UT health department.
As per the data released by the Centre, Chandigarh’s coverage of health care workers for vaccination has been 69.5%, while for frontline workers it is 75.3%.
A total of 30,7378 have been given the first doses out of 38,2598 total doses till date.
Even while the vaccine doses for the 18+ has not been replenished in government facilities, eight private centres have started the coverage at a cost of Rs 900 per dose.
