Children consist of 12% of cases in Assam in the second wave

Guwahati: About 12% of Covid cases in the second wave in Assam are infections in children under 18 years.
When preparation switches to a pediatric icus that is ready in all districts to handle the possibility of the third wave of Covid-19, the Ministry of Health told that 34,606 children in the 18-year-old group were infected by the virus this time.
From April 1 to June 26, a total of 2,80,504 people tested Covid-positive in the state.
As many as 5,755 cases are children under five years while 28,851 between 6 and 18 years.
Kamrup (Metropolitan) has the highest kaseeload with 5,346 children found infected.
It stands at 10.04% of the total cost of 53,251 in the district.
Dibrugarh followed next with 2,430 Covid cases among children, which contributed 12.19% of children infected from a total of 19,937 cases in Assam Regency above.
Nagaon is placed third with 2,288 cases under 18 years and this stands at 14.38% of infected children of a total of 15,910 cases.
Kamrup Regency was placed fourth with 2,023 Covid cases among children, namely 11.75% of children infected from a total of 17,216 cases.
Sonitpur, one of the most vulnerable districts during the second wave, is fifth with 1,839 cases.
“Different districts have more or less people infected with Covid belonging to less than 18 years.
From April 1 to June 26, 2021, the country has reported 34 deaths among the above categories,” read statements issued by the Assam National Health Mission.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Health said deaths reportedly had comorbidities such as default diseases in the heart, kidneys and rare malformations, especially among less than five years.
In Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) here, 135 positive cases under 14 years treated since April and nine deaths were reported.
GMCH supervisor Dr.
Abhijit Sarma told TII that these cases were asymptomatic.
“From parents, infections spread to most children.
But there are other groups, where newborns are infected immediately after birth,” he said.
ICU 40 beds are ready for pediatric treatment at GMCH, he said.
In the first wave, it was calculated from March last year until April this year, GMCH received 228 cases of covid positive children for the treatment of whom 12 died.
At present, nine children undergo covid treatment at GMCH.
During the ASSAM Community Supervision Program that was ongoing phase III (ACSP III), many children lived with parents and positive guardians of Covid, who had chosen house isolation, then tested positive covid.
