Bengaluru: Four-year-old couple and son, who visited a patient at the Bowring Hospital and Lady Curbinagar in Shivajinagar, faced 40 minutes away when their elevators traveled in between the first and second floors on Saturday.
Fire personnel and emergency services and local police quickly arrived at the scene and saved the trio.
Entrepreneurs Mohammed Rafi from Vijayanagar told Stoi that he went to the hospital at around 11:30 a.m.
to meet family friends who were accepted for care at government facilities.
Rafi’s wife, asthma, and son, Tazin, with him.
“We were told that the patient, my friend, was on the second floor.
When we visited the second floor, he wasn’t there.
We decided to go back and enter the elevator with him we went up,” Rafi said.
The elevator moves a few meters when it reaches the grinding termination.
“We thought it would continue and wait for some time, but nothing happened.
Realizing it was wrong, I tried to call the number provided for the emergency in the elevator, but it was in vain,” Rafi said.
Rafi then called the police control room and staff there was informed fire and emergency services and the Shivajinagar Jurisdictional Police Station.
The police called Rafi again and told him that they were in work and asked him to stay calm.
“Ventilation is not a problem inside, but my son starts crying.
Twice the lights in the elevator rang, which made us a little worried.
We turned on the torch on our cellphone every time his strength died,” Rafi said.
Hemant Kumar K, district firefighters from the southern fire station, Mayo Hall, reached a place with five of his staff.
Kumar said they brought the elevator back to the second floor using a pulley.
“When the elevator appears, we manually open the door and issue the three people,” he said.
