Chandigarh: Cracker tires rose in smoke in Diwali as air quality derived from ‘satisfying’ to ‘severe’ in a few hours.
AQI (air quality index) of 465 recorded at sector monitoring stations 25 and 409 in sector 22 on Thursday night.
Satisfying air quality (Aqi below 100) at all stations during the day, according to officials of the Chandigarh pollution control committee.
After 6pm, it began to deteriorate.
At 10 pm, it was in the severe category in the 22nd sector and at 11pm in the sector 25.
But there was a silver layer.
The average AQI is 115 compared to last year 140 (sector 25 stations 25) on Diwali’s day.
This, official explained, was because Diwali in 2020 fell on November 14, when weather and other factors play a role in polluting the air too.
Track the level of pollution in your city out from five stations, AQI (on average 24 hours) in the medium category in three (sector 17, 22 and 25) and poor in two (sector 12 and 39).
“This is a relief problem that because Aqi’s weather conditions again increased to satisfy after 2am,” officials said.
But the noise level also surges in Diwali.
The highest level of 78.2 DB (a) was found in sector 39 and the lowest of 58.4 dB (a) in sector 17.
Last year in Diwali, a maximum noise level of 66.6 D
