A police official said Raju was accused of several cases, including rape.
Kakati said the defendant was taken to Medical College Hospital (AMCH) on Friday for treatment at the Urology Department but was found covid-positive there.
In the end, he was taken to LMCH for Covid care.
Raju was reported to have undergone surgery at Amch after defending last year’s bullet injury.
“He was treated at LMCH at 5.40 a night on Friday.
Around 9pm, the defendant was in the Covid ward when our doctor went there for a patient’s health check.
Maybe, he escaped after midnight,” said Kakati.
The doctor said the defendant was not a handcuff when undergoing treatment at LMCH, and that he did not show symptoms.
