Guwahati: The Power Department Assam has collected almost Rs 12 Crore as fine from various stakeholders / factories / individuals in the past month for non-payment of electricity consumption bills.
The state has caused a loss around Rs 300 Crore every month because of non-payment of electricity consumption bills by various stakeholders / individuals / factory theft.
To convert the power department to the profit generator department, the government has initiated several steps including “no electricity bills, no salary” for government employees.
The Minister of Bimal Borah said at a press conference here on Monday that the department recorded 124 cases of great power theft throughout the state last month and collected Rs 11.65 Crore as well.
“Some factories and industries are trapped in the past month.
They have not paid electricity consumption bills for a long time.
We have realized the fine of them.
In addition, the electricity department also captures several cases of electricity theft,” he added.
By stating that the department of strength has worked to turn it into a department that produces profits, the minister appealed to people to cooperate with the department by paying the electricity consumption bill on time.
