DIBRUGARH: A doctor working with a private hospital in Dibrugarh was arrested on Thursday on charges of raping a colleague.
The accused, Dr Nayan Jyoti Deka, works at the Sanjivani Diagnostics and Hospital situated at Bordoloi Avenue on the Assam Medical College road in Paltan Bazar.
According to police, the rape survivor had mentioned in her FIR that Deka had raped her in his room in the hospital on Wednesday night.
On Thursday morning, she approached the Borbari police outpost and filed the FIR.
Deka, who is married, is a native of Dhubri.
Confirming the development, Dibrugarh SP Shwetank Mishra said, “Based on the FIR of the complainant, we have arrested the accused doctor.
He has been booked under section 376 (rape) and 328 (causing harm) of the IPC.
The medical examination of the victim has been carried out and the report is awaited.
Her statement has been recorded.
The accused doctor is currently being interrogated.” (The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
