(By Dr.
Sudarshan Ballal) with Covid-19 cases increased exponentially, Dr.
Sudarshan Ballal, Chairman of Manipal Hospital, told Stoi about DOS and should not be followed during the third wave of pandemics.
How should someone prepare differently for this wave? It is important to know that similar precautions and precautions for all forms of covid – omicron, delta or other variants.
The steps that must be taken are to prevent the spread of the virus through the corresponding behavior of covids such as masking, distance, hand washing and avoiding large crowds, especially indoors in poor ventilated areas.
They include aggressive vaccination protocols which will certainly reduce the seriousness of the disease, and reduce the acceptance and mortality of ICU significantly even if they do not always prevent infection.
Even though Omicron was less fierce than Delta, it spread faster.
Hospital beds must be reserved only for severe painful patients to ensure health service infrastructure is not overwhelmed.
Because children have not been vaccinated so far, pediatric care must be given interests.
What medicine should you save (if any)? I would really urge the public not to treat myself but consult health workers for proper care if there are symptoms.
Most patients with Omicron are better and do not require certain therapy.
In general, salt water is warm or intelligent for sore throat, and paracetamol for pain and fever can be useful at home.
So will masks, pulse thermometers and oximers.
Some drugs, when given earlier, can modify diseases such as paxloid, molnupiravir, remedies and cocktails of monoclonal antibodies.
Steroids may be needed in certain situations, but must be consumed strictly under medical supervision.
What are the symptoms / signs to be considered? Because there are significant overlapping in the symptoms of various respiratory virus diseases such as colds, flu and covid, sometimes it is difficult to make a diagnosis of covid based on symptoms.
Common symptoms for omicrons may have sore throat, bodyache, headaches, fever and fatigue.
For other variants such as delta, there may be shortness of breath and loss of odor and significant taste in addition to many other medical complications that can be associated with Covid in some cases.
In the case of reinfection, what should you do? Both vaccination and previous infection with Covid will guarantee absolute immunity to reinfection.
Therefore, it is important for you to remember this and consult your doctor if you have the symptoms listed above even if you have Covid in the past or have been vaccinated.
When should you find a hospital admission ticket? , Severe nausea, vomiting or diarrhea that can cause dehydration.
Should someone keep monitoring O2 levels? Omicron does not involve the lungs as much as the Delta variant, then hypoxia and shortness of breath is unusual with omicron infection.
However, because someone doesn’t know what variant has been infected with only symptoms, wise to monitor the oxygen level using pulse oximeter even during the current wave.
