Bengaluru: In an effort to improve the first and final connectivity of miles for ordinary people, amidst that traffic concerns that are developing in the city center such as Bengaluru or Hubbali-Dharwad, Mysore or Mangaluru, the state government has brought a new policy of e-bike taxis.
E-motorcycle taxis will be allowed to travel up to 10 kilometers.
Ordinary gasoline bikes are still not considered a bicycle taxi.
The government has announced two flat rates for taxis, one to 5 kilometers and one more for 5 to 10 kilometers.
This policy was launched on Wednesday by Minister B Yediyurappa, where the government said that everyone over the age of 15 can take e-motor taxis to zip through traffic and achieve minimal goals.
In accordance with new policies, e-bike taxis can be launched by any individual and they only need to get a license from local road transportation and also ensure that the driver leased is cross verified for their anteseden by the local police station.
The license will apply for a period of 5 years.
The security deposit for each bicycle, while obtaining a license, is Rs 5,000 and needs to be submitted to the local RTO.
However, individual licenses can be released from deposits.
The authorities also suggest that e-bicycle rides need to be taken only on the shortest route but directly to the hirer destination.
Hirers cannot carry heavy items on bicycles and only limited luggage such as normal size backpacks or reasonable weight handling bags will be permitted.
The Hirer and the driver both need to wear a helmet with color yellow and also the driver needs to wear a reflective jacket.
The e-bike will have colors as determined by the Transportation Commissioner and have words: “Bike-Taxi” painted on both sides of the vehicle, with a white plate on the back and front has the same words.
The driver’s name and telephone number must be attached to the bicycle and also need to be equipped with GPS if the bicycle company has more than 50 bicycle taxis.
The Links and Feed GPS vehicles will then be shared with law enforcement and administrative authorities whenever needed.
