Bengaluru: Karnataka has received 65.5 lakh covid-19 vaccine doses from the center so far in August, and more doses are expected in a week.
On Tuesday only, the state received 11 doses of lakh.
Current shares in Karnataka are enough to vaccinate five lakh people a day for the following week, said Arundhati Chandrashekar, mission director, national health mission, Karnataka.
“Supply is much better and regular now,” Chandrashekar said.
“We received more doses in August compared to the previous months, and another consignment was expected before the month ended.” The state received a total of 68.1 doses of lakh in July and 50.2 lakh doses in June.
“If the supply continues at the same level as August, we can vaccinate 90% of the population that qualifies in December,” Chandrashekar said.
As on Tuesday, the state has given the first dose of 2.9 crore from a population that meets almost five crore.
More than 88 lakh people have both doses.
The state began to invest everyone over the age of 18 years in government vaccination centers only from 27 July.
Before that, the focus was on those with over 45 years and priority groups including students in the 18-44 year group.
“We have held a stage,” an official said.
“We now have enough stock to be inoculate all.
The focus is to cover as many people as possible before the third wave hit.
People must come to CVCS government if they want a free vaccine.” At present, around 3.5 doses of lakh are given every day.
On Tuesday, 3.8 doses of lakh were given, and coverage of 3.7 lakh each in the previous two days.
This includes the first and second dose.
