Guwahati: Fake Tweet, bear the name of Minister Assam Himanta Buswa Sarma which states that schools and colleges in the state will be closed again from November 20, considering Covid cases that increased, creating confusion in the academic circles on Wednesday.
Sarma immediately asked the police to record the tweet and act through his official Twitter handle.
“Fake tweets that give my name circulation say that because cases # Covid19 has risen schools & colleges closed from November 20.
It’s wrong & it shouldn’t be noticed.
Stay away from the wrong information and fake news!” Sarma tweeted.
Covid infection cases reported from several schools after the return of offline studies.
The source in the Ministry of Education, however, claims that the number of infected students, teachers and non-teaching staff in schools and colleges has been ‘less than 20’.
Fake tweets reportedly posted on November 1 said because the Covid-19 case increased in Assam at high speed, the Ministry of Education and the government had decided to close the school and college from November 20.
On October 31, positive cases crossed 300, the tweet mentioned.
TOI reaches several senior state officials, including basic education director, but they refuse to disclose the actual number of active cases related to educational institutions.
In Assam, many parents still have not sent their children to elementary school, although in the middle and higher class, the presence has increased over the past few weeks.
The major secretary of the Ministry of Education, B Kalyan Chakravarthy, said Covid infection did not spread to campuses and was only limited to several cases.
“The deputy commissioner of all districts has been instructed that within one hour of infection reported at school, I must be informed about the details.
To this day, the situation is under control,” he said.
Two government schools in Guwahati were put down in detention last week after several positive Covid cases were reported.
Restrictions will be withdrawn from school after one week on Thursday.
The School Camrup (Metro) Inspector (is), Prasnana Bora, said that since then there has been no surge in Covid cases at Guwahati School.
“We appeal to guardians to continue to monitor their children’s activities.
They should not send any students with Covid’s symptoms to school,” said Bora.
