Guwahati: In a surprising incident, a man from Morigaon Regency Assam was allegedly sold his two-year-old son for Rs 40,000 to buy medicines.
The incident was reported from Laharaghat Village in Morigaon, about 80 km east of Guwahati.
On the basis of the pine submitted by the mother of the child, Rukmina Begum, on Thursday, the police arrested the father accused of Aminul Islam, a resident of Barbari, and Sazida Begum, who bought the child on Friday.
Rukmina was where her father had been in the past few months with her son after he quarreled with Aminul for alleged involvement in peddling drugs.
The police said, “According to the complainant, Aminul sold their son to Sazida Begum from Goroimari in Laharaghat Morigaon for Rs 40,000 to buy drugs.
On the basis of his complaint was submitted on Thursday, the police save the child from the residence of Sazida Begum and handed it to the mother today.
“In accordance with FIR, Aminul has visited Rukmina where her father ago a few days ago and took the child to his house with the pretext that he would apply for his Aadhaar card, but even after two or three days, Aminul did not return the child to his mother.
Aminul is allegedly involved in consuming and peddling drugs for the past three years and several other illegal activities, including running sex rackets.
The police said they saw allegations.
The state government has launched hard action against drugs since its formation in May and destroyed the drug confiscated more than RS 163 Crore in July.
Nearly 900 cases related to drug transactions have been registered and nearly 2,000 people have been arrested until now.
