Guwahati: Foreign tourists do not have a role in pushing the third wave induced by Omicron in Assam, said the source of the State Health Department, because only about 2% or 118 out of 5,458 foreign travelers tested positive Covid after arriving in the state in the past two months.
Only 32 of them were positive Omicron until January 31, after the genome sequencing intact.
“There is no certainty that foreign travelers carry omicron variants with them to Assam and northeast.
Most foreign returns test positive covids on the eighth day remain in isolation.
Many of them may be infected while in Assam,” a senior official of the State Department Tofu Toi on Saturday.
“The majority of 83 omicron cases found in the state have been detected during the search for people.
Although some of them have a history of travel domestically, foreign travelers are not the main carrier of the virus,” officially added, blaming the possibility of transforming variants locally.
As a new restriction in foreign travelers will not be imposed in the country in the near future, the number of foreign travelers can rise.
But the trend in the first week of February slightly discouraged.
The number of foreign refugees might be plummmet in the next few days because only 36 foreign travelers have entered the country in the last five days (from 1 to 5 February), although only two have tested positive covids.
“Because the number of Covid cases dropped significantly in Assam, the number of positive cases among foreign tourists also declined.
But it may take longer to recover from damage caused by perceptions in the minds of international tourists,” the official said.
There was an uneven decline in the number of foreign tourists to Assam since mid-December last year, when Omicron had set alarm bells ringing in this country.
Government sources say this has been about sectors such as tourism in the northeastern state such as Assam, who expects a large number of foreigners in December and January.
Data obtained from the Ministry of Health revealed that the number of foreign travelers entered the country since the Magh Bihu, was celebrated in mid-January, then dipped.
In accordance with 10 days since December 1, the highest 1,149 international passengers entered the state between December 11 and 20.
from December 21 to 31, the number dropped to 965, but slightly rose to 1,015 (between 1 to 10 January).
In the next 20 days there was a continuous decline in the number of foreign tourists.
From January 11 to 20, the number of foreign tourists who entered the country fell to 732 and further to 670 in the next 10 days (21 to 31 January).
