Chandigarh: The trial of running a third-quality ambient air quality monitoring station (CAAQMS) received from a German-based company has begun, giving encouragement to the city in its efforts to plan a strategy to improve air quality.
RS 1.01 Crore Station installed at the Nursery Department of Forestry in Sector 53 will be tried for a month and then assigned.
Technical experts Department of Science and Technology Administration will regularly assess work before their inauguration.
Debendra Dalai, Director, Environment, Providing UT, said, “This is the third CAAQMS in the city.” CAAQMS has been installed in Sector 25 in 2018 and the other in sector 22 earlier this year.
“In addition to planning and setting the norms to stop pollution, these machines will help us produce real time data, it is important to prepare long-term policies related to the environment.
Although city air quality is better than other cities, we regularly monitor it,” Dalai said.
UT has received a grant for monitoring machines under a five-year national clean air program that starts from 2019.
