Guwahati: Congress Deputy Leader at Lok Sabha and Kalibibor MP Gaurav Gogoi on Saturday wrote to Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to begin rapid action to ensure commissioning directly from the delayed water supply scheme in Guwahati to provide a water supply to the city 24×7.
The four main water projects began in 2011.
While North Guwahati and the Guwahati Air Supply Project were funded by JICA, West Guwahati Zone funded by JNNURM and East Guwahati Zone funded by ADB.
Gammon India was awarded a contract to build a project.
“The projects are expected to end the acute water crisis in the city.
It began in 2011 and is scheduled to be completed in seven years.
Now, it is expected to be completed in 2022,” Gogoi said.
He said among the four projects, only the Western Guwahati zone had been resolved and was assigned on November 30, 2020.
But for three other projects, even after 10 years, more than 30% of the work had not been executed, he added.
“The progress of the 24×7 drinking water supply project in Guwahati is slower than the speed of the snail, and has forced the population to be brought to the streets,” he said.
