CHAMBA: At first, the farmers of Himachal Pradesh’s among both aspirational districts Chamba will nurture asafoetida, popularly called heeng, in higher reaches Holi and Bharmaur areas of this district providing another alternative to farmers to profit from the conventional plants and multiply their own earnings.
Chamba’s deputy commissioner D C Rana told TOI on Friday the district had obtained 500 heeng plants along with the other 1,000 plants could be coming soon in Pangi area.
A senior scientist in the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) -Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (IHBT) stated the seedlings were ready through tissue culture or direct sowing of seeds and farmers had been awarded a year old plants.
Chamba together with Sirmour are labeled as aspirational districts from the central authorities.
The aspirational districts are all regarded backward on different parameters, for example education, wellness, lady and child welfare and agriculture.
Rana explained the heeng manufacturing starts after five decades and brings anything about Rs 8 to 9 lakh net profit per hectare.
He explained that the government will even put up processing units to its manufacture in Chamba.
