His wife Jaspreet Kaur and three daughters aged 12, 11 and eight years stayed in a small temporary house made of mud and bricks in Cheema Kalan Village, about 50 km from the holy city of Amritsar.
His son died two years ago.
The family barely manages two eating Square a day when lakhbir is still alive and will work in the field of village or in the Tarn Taran District wheat market for his livelihood.
“Who will advance to take care of his family now and what about the future of his children.
Who will help them,” Laments his sister Raj Kaur.
Lakhbir Singh’s body, 35, was found to be tied to a reverse police barricade on the Singhu border site where farmers protested three central agricultural laws.
His left hand was cut and his body had more than 10 injuries caused by sharp-eyed weapons.
A few hours after Macabre’s crime, a man wearing a blue robe from the Order Nihang Sikhs claimed that he had “punished” the victim to “tarnish” Sikh’s holy book.
The man, identified as Sarabet Singh from Vitwha in the Gurdapas Punjab district, was later arrested for Lynching.
Questioning his claim, Jaspreet Kaur and Raj Kaur said Lakhbir Singh “has a deep respect for the teacher of Sahib said”.
“He is a person who is afraid of God who has never thought of tarnishing the holy book …
Every time he is used to going to Gurdwara, he will pray for the welfare of his family and the community,” Jaspreet Kaur said.
He did not have a criminal note and had no reports of him as a bad character, the victim’s family said and demanded a high-level probe throughout the episode to bring up the truth.
Jaspreet and Raj Kaur said even if it was assumed for a moment that Lakhbir had done something wrong, those who killed him in a savagey way should give him time to prove his innocence, or they could hand them to the police.
“At the stage of not being able to become the determinant authority when running their own style court who said punishment and then kill him inhuman.
Where land law applies here?” said his grieving sister.
His family members including Brother-in-law Simranjit Kaur and Mother-in-law of Sawinder Kaur told the media that Lakhbir Singh and his sister Raj Kaur was adopted by a retired army, Harnam Singh who could not be studied.
Harnam Singh, however, is now no longer there.
The family claims that lakhbir has no affiliation with any political clothing and has never gone to a political general meeting to support every political person.
His sister Raj Kaur said, “My brother was only Hospital 50 when he left the house and the money was not enough to reach the Singhu border but he might have reached there when taking a ride from several trolley tractors or trucks”.
“Moreover, before the incident, my brother lived with those people, who are now behind his murder, for three days,” he said.
Asked why Lakhbir went to the Singhu border, Raj Kaur said, “Someone might have offered him more money (for delivery)”.
