VIJAYAPURA: Even though several jails are trying to maintain offenders, the Vijayapura Central Jail, which was put up a quarantine method in a price of Rs 4.50 lakh this past year, is currently producing rugs, blankets and facial masks later accepting its offenders into optimism.
Jail superintendent that I J Myageri, that has been honoured with the Chief Minister’s Medal for his work during 2020-12, told TOI that the initiative is targeted at instilling social obligation among the offenders.
Thus far, they’ve ready 14,000 masks and provided (free of charge ) into the sections of government, judiciary, Home Guards and many others.
They also have stitched 1,700 pairs of authorities uniform in the past year, Myageri added.
The offenders will also be making blankets and carpets of all different dimensions, aside from towels, lungis and handkerchieves.
“We’ve put up a booth at the prison premises for people to purchase our goods.
We’ve sold products value of Rs 25,000 in April alone.
At the moment, non-government businesses are purchasing our goods, along with the sales proceeds are deposited into ‘ Welfare Fund,” he clarified.
Vinayak Kathare, among those buyers, stated the rugs and blankets are really on a level with any fabric brand.
“After obtaining quality goods at a minimal cost, I urge others also to purchase from here,” he added.
The central prison, home 638 offenders, will be the first to establish a”quarantine jail”, whereas 15 fresh offenders will remain for 14 days prior to entering the major prison, together with Covid bad report.

Aside from making fabric goods, offenders can also be invited in gardening — they’re increasing over 10 kinds of vegetables.
