Hubballi: With Navalgund Mla Shankar Patil Munenakoppa became the Minister of Handlooms and Textiles, weavers from Navalgund Dhurries Popular hopes to see their resurrection.
Navalgund Dhurrie, known as Navalgund Jamkhana, is now on the verge of extinction after a pandemic.
Hundreds of families moving in making Dhurries be beaten badly.
Many people depend on the weave Dhurries stop because of old age and settle at home.
To support weavers, the Karnataka government established an exclusive production center for Dhurries and Roped in craftsmen.
Before the first wave, more than 35 people worked there but it has now dropped to 15.
Corporate Development of Karnataka State Craft (KSHDC) takes Dhurries Marketing but is limited by a lack of funds.
Mehaboobabi Patwegar, 60, from Jamakhan Galli, Navalgund, said: “We got Rs 110 per square meter to weave Dhuri with various sizes.
We want to keep the art alive and ensure Navalgund Jamkhanas is available.
If the government starts the training center and provides monetary assistance, The art will last.
“Farzana Shirasangi, artisan weaving Navalgund Jamkhanas, said:” Because Covid, the art of Dhurries was under threat.
We struggled to keep the art of life.
Jamkhana was seen in the palace in Mysuru and other historical sites.
“Akkamahadevi Bojararar , working for more than 25 years in this field, said: “We used to prepare Jamkhanas with different sizes.
Chaar Mor Pagadi Mani (Shatranj), Bada Ghadi Jamkhana, Ok Mor Jamkhane (1 Peacock) and the others are woven in the middle.”
