New Delhi / Bengaluru: The Authority of the Cauvery River Water Management on Tuesday Direct Karnataka to release 28TMCT from Cauvery Air to Tamil Nadu – which is a shortage of water allotment for the period 30 August – besides September quota.
Karnataka has released a 57TMCT water on August 30.
Cauvery authority meeting was held in Delhi.
“We will assess storage and inflows of the four reservoirs and receive calls to release water to Tamil Nadu,” said Minister of Water Resources Govind Karjol.
Karnataka must release the amount of water prescribed to Tamil Nadu every month in accordance with the monthly quota set by the Supreme Court.
But this year, the state has not been able to meet the quota because of the lack of rain and thinning into his reservoir in the Cauvery basin.
Karjol said: “We have not been able to release water to Tamil Nadu according to the monthly quota because of dry spells in July and August.
Even now, there is little storage than normal in four reservoirs in Cauvery Basin.” Cauvery authority avoided discussions about the Balancing Reservoir project proposed by Karnataka.
Although Mekedatu was on the agenda, the meeting did not raise him after representatives of Tamil Nadu quoted the petition by the state government in the Supreme Court who was looking for a rejection of a detailed project report on the Mekedatu Dam proposal.
They said discussions about Mekedatu were only possible if all stakeholders – Karnataka, Kerala and Puduchery – agreed.
