Chikkaballapur: Visitors to Nandi Hills, one of the favorite holidays for Bengalureans, was in a rough surprise on Saturday morning: they were rejected into tourist attractions after the district administrative decision to ban the entry for the weekend due to pollution.
Many were stopped at the foot of the hill, about 65 km from the city, because the police had installed a barricade.
In the last week of August, the holiday was closed for tourists after heavy rain, which resulted in landslides to wash the stretch of road to the hill.
After the road is connected, tourist attractions opened on 1.
December.
But the restrictions on the entry of visitors continued because the government had announced at night hours during the weekend to prevent a surge in Covid cases.
Now, with the marriage hours of night lifting the government, visitors who want to go to the hill hope that the entry will be permitted for the weekend.
However, it was not because the district government decided to continue with the ban.
Deputy Commissioner R Latha said the entry had been stopped because there was a big rush during the weekend and there was little room for parking vehicles.
Those who cannot park tend to roam on the hill and throw garbage into that place, causing pollution.
The number of visitors is more than 15,000 sometimes to fight a capacity of 1,500 to 2,000, he said.
On weekdays, an average of around 3,000.
He said the tourism department was working on the system to allow a limited number of visitors to the hill over the weekend.
The system, after being applied, will help monitor the actual number of visitors and vehicles.
Under the proposed system, the entry of vehicles will be monitored at the foot of the hill and reservations of parking slots – both online and offline – will be carried out accordingly.
The department has worked on an experimental system during weekdays and based on feedback, it will be introduced during the weekend, he said.
