MANGALURU: Lockdown will be extended in Dakshina Kannada for one more week after June 14, said district minister Kota Shrinivas Poojari.
The minister said after attending a video conference with chief minister B S Yediyurappa on Thursday that the CM has agreed to take a decision regarding the extension of lockdown in Dakshina Kannada.
“During our discussion through video conference, the CM has reviewed the situation regarding Covid-19.
We have presented the statistics of Dakshina Kannada and also sought the release of more vaccine doses for the district.
During the discussion on lockdown, we have convinced the chief minister about the necessity of extension with relaxations for industrial and other few other essential sectors.
The CM has agreed to take a decision at the district level.
Hence, we will hold a meeting of all MLAs and the MP on Friday,” Poojari said.
Lockdown relaxation may be allowed for daily wagers and other essential service sectors in addition to the industrial sector, he said, adding that a final decision will be taken on Friday.
Meanwhile, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) will adopt tougher rules to control the spread of Covid in the city.
Accordingly, if a person in an apartment tests positive, all inmates in the complex will be considered primary contacts and all of them will be made to undergo RT-PCR test, said MCC commissioner Akshy Sridhar.
“At present, under the MCC’s jurisdiction, the positivity rate is around 17%.
To decrease the spread of infection significantly, it is imperative that testing must be increased.
Therefore, it becomes important to subject all primary contacts to Covid testing,” he said.
He sought cooperation from residents and flat owners’ associations in this regard
