Guwahati: After months of speculation about where the congress will go for future improvements in the state, Assam PCC announces on Monday that they will go alone in an effort to add more muscle to the bottom of the grassroots.
Shepherd Mahajot, opposition party alliance, to take BJP has been detained.
The six assembly chairs are heading for immediate weakness and from this majuli seats have not been emptied by the powerful legislator, Sarbanou Sonowal, who was appointed in the Union Cabinet recently.
There are whispers in the corridor of the power that can be downloaded by Sonowal from the State Assembly today.
PCC President Assam Bhupen Borah, at the press meeting here, said the Congress wants to do it himself in the Lok Sabha 2024 poll and polls 2026 and do not want to weaken their organizer bases by giving space for allies.
“We have provided a clear message to grassroots workers that we want to fight the upcoming Sabha and election of the Assembly alone.
That is the reason why Congress will solo to strengthen its base by taking bonds,” Borah said.
“Too much dependence on the Alliance partner has weakened Congress in Assam.
The main example is an area inhabited by BODO where we are very dependent on the front of Bodoland,” he added.
Borah said they would have various strategies given the current party power.
“In Majuli, Congress lost 48,000 votes in the latest assembly selection.
Our strategy will be different here than in our fortress Thowra and Mariani,” Borah said.
He said at Mariani, Thowra, Bhabanipur and Gossiigaon, the party was ready to fight the election alone, although in Majuli and Tamulpur could consider the nomination of other anti-BJP parties.
Even though he put aside the possibility of an alliance with Akhil Gogoi-LED Raijor Dal, the Head of the State Congress said they were thinking of sewing alliances with Assam Jatiya Parishad.
Even when Congress was heading for Mahajot, it planned to take AJP on board after leaving AIDF.
“Congress has fixed September 27 as the last date to receive applications from candidates.
We will take the final decision on field candidates after assessing the strength and ability of applicants,” he added.
He said the party currently only has 27 MLA in Assam but the congress has ambition to return to power.
“If we go for tie-up, grassroots will experience demoralization.
They will not work wholeheartedly, afraid of seats can go to the Allies,” he said.
Congress announced Mahajot, the 10th alliance, ahead of the 2021 assembly poll, but Assam PCC decided to dissolve the coalition recently on the grounds that no longer serve the interests of the party.
The most influential partner, AIUD, was shown by the door after starting to sing different songs to support CM Himanta Buswa Sarma.
Allegations of their ‘gentle’ attitude towards the Taliban in Afghanistan are also the cause of concern.
Other alliance partners such as CPI have announced candidates for Thowra.
