Mohali: The crime investigation body has damaged a group of car lifts and snatchers, with the arrest of nine people, and recover 52 luxury cars stolen.
Senior Police Supervisors (SSP) Satinder Singh said on Wednesday accused of being arrested in a separate raid conducted in various hiding places.
“The gang uses a technical support system to decode the engine control module (ECM) vehicles and start their machines,” SSP said.
DSP Gurcharan Singh said Harjot Singh, one of the accused, was an electric engineer.
He along with the accomplice used to decode the machine control module using an external ECM to start.
After stealing a vehicle, they use ECM to steal the others.
They fake machine and chassis numbers.
After getting unintentional and total vehicle details, they got a fake registration certificate, said DSP.
With the help of Mandeep Singh, Delhi-based criminals, stolen vehicles were used to be sold in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Pune in Maharashtra.
They were all produced in court and were taken from police detention.
The police claimed to have solved two theft of cars registered under the Sohana and Balongi police station and a car under the police station Sohana and Lalru, he said.
The SSP said 100 more stolen vehicles and grabbed will be immediately restored.
